George Zimmerman recently revisited the national spotlight after police reports indicated he was involved in a deadly domestic dispute with his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe. Zimmerman was promptly arrested on Monday night, only months following the controversial ruling regarding the death of teenager Trayvon Martin.

Similar to the Martin case, accounts of the criminal dispute at hand are widely varied. Zimmerman is accused of erupting on his girlfriend, smashing items within their shared home and eventually threatening her with a shotgun. Samantha Scheibe told investigators he had recently been considering committing suicide.

A Florida judge has since cited enough probable cause to charge Zimmerman with aggravated assault which is considered a felony. Zimmerman is also facing misdemeanor counts of domestic violence battery and criminal mischief. His arraignment has been scheduled for January 7th.

Meanwhile Zimmerman has posted $9,000 on bail. A prosecutor argued Zimmerman’s bail should be set higher, citing new allegations he had choked his girlfriend just prior to the domestic dispute.

Despite his newly secured freedom, there are several conditions he must adhere to before the January arraignment. Zimmerman cannot legally possess weapons, cannot have any contact with Samantha Scheibe, must wear a monitoring device and must remain in the state of Florida.

Reports indicate Zimmerman, who is currently unemployed, has amassed debt well over $2.5 million and has virtually no funds left to his name. His bond was reportedly covered by a friend.

Public defenders have been assigned to represent Zimmerman’s case as a result of his crippling debt. Zimmerman could face a lengthy prison term if convicted on these latest charges.
