If there’s one thing we know how to do in Phoenix, it’s Mexican food. Thanks to the blossoming food culture in Phoenix, the options for great Mexican fare are too numerous to list. However, we’re trying our hand at bringing you a few of our favorites. Here’s a list of some of the best around.

mexican food from phoenix arizona

Frank and Lupe’s
A hole-in-the-wall place with an extensive menu of family recipes, it’s pretty much impossible to find something that isn’t delicious. If you’re looking for the perfect taco, then any of the varieties offered come very close. Try the shredded beef, chicken or fish tacos, and don’t forget the sopaipillas. If you’re feeling hungrier or more adventurous, try the poblano cream chicken enchilada. Find Frank and Lupe’s in Old Town Scottsdale or by going to www.frankandlupes.com.

Rancho de Tia Rosa

Rosa’s grandson opened the first Tia Rosa restaurant in Mesa in 1991, exclusively using Rosa’s homegrown Mexican recipes. What started as a small taco shop has grown into a first-class restaurant, now located in Gilbert, which offers fantastic patio seating, margarita pitchers and combination plates loaded with food. If you go for anything on the menu that includes the words “carne asada,” you’ll be in good shape. Find their Gilbert location or the next stop for their food truck at www.tiarosas.com.

Barrio Cafe

Since 2002, Barrio Café has been the home to celebrated Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza. Up until recently, the location at 16th and Thomas was the only place to find this authentic Mexican menu. Now, Barrio can be found at Sky Harbor Airport, and at their newest location at the Bragg’s Pie Factory building on Grand Avenue. The original boasts over 200 tequilas, an extensive food menu and even a Sunday brunch option. Try out the Barrio at any one of the three incarnations. Find more info at www.barriocafe.com.
